AONB wins £2.8m funding
ALMOST £3 million of lottery money
has been allocated to the Wye Valley
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
(AONB).
The protected area - which includes
Herefordshire, Monmouthshire and
Gloucestershire - has been awarded
£2.8 million.
The Heritage Lottery Fund cash will be
used on 40 projects from Fownhope to
Chepstow over a three-year period.
Projects include the restoration of
Little Doward hillfort views, archaeological
investigation at New Weir Forge,
access improvements at Devil's Pulpit
which overlooks Tintern Abbey,
improvements to Ross riverside and
access improvements to Symonds Yat
Rock.
Partners including Herefordshire
Council, parish councils and individuals
have contributed to funds.
Phil Cutter, who represents Ross-on-
Wye on Herefordshire Council, said:
"This is good news for Herefordshire
and the Wye Valley."
It is hoped that, as well as boosting the
economy, county residents will be able
to learn more about the Wye Valley.
