Village pub under threat
A KINGTON pub is under threat because
customers can't smoke or afford to drink
there, it has been claimed.
Paramount Investments says last July's
smoking ban, rising living costs and
changing weather conditions are all reasons
the Ewe and Lamb is on the market -
and if a buyer can't be found it could close
for good.
Mark Greig, managing director, said:
"The pub trade is going through troubled
times thanks to last year's poor summer,
the smoking ban and fears of a recession.
"If no-one from the hospitality industry
steps forward to buy it, it could cease to be
a pub at all."
The London-based agency is marketing
the High Street building as a housing
development opportunity, as well as a
pub.
Current owner Admiral Taverns said it
was selling the property because it doesn't
go with other pubs in its portfolio.
